DSM5 to fold Asperger's Syndrome into spectrum disorder.
A draft of the DSM5 was released on 2/10/10 and revealed what most of us assumed was coming: Asperger's will be folded into a new spectrum disorder. Rather than have to choose between autism, PDDNOS and Asperger's, clinicians will simply be able to choose Autism Spectrum Disorder.
There is a good piece on NPR radio on 2/10/10 that you can access from their website that reviews the new system and talks about the reaction from those who have been diagnosed with Asperger's. Apparently there is some reservation for adults with Asperger's because of the paradoxical status of being at the top of the mountain -- along with Einstein, Jeffereson, Edison ... etc.
Check out the NPR piece and let me know what you think on the GroupWorks Facebook page.
