Parenting an explosive child?

Dr. Ross Greene is a professor of psychiatry at Harvard who has a great website: The Center for Collaborative Problem Solving (www.ccps.info/). Dr. Greene has written an incredibly valuable book on how to parent children and teens who are chronically inflexible, explosive and do not respond to traditional behavior modification methods.

Dr. Greene discusses a cognitive-behavioral approach to the management of conflict and agression that is VERY effective for children with a wide variety of neuro-developmental problems (ASD included).

If you are feeling that everything you try in terms of consequences blows up and actually escalates conflict, this is the book for you. He has many resources on his website, including a DVD for parents. I have used his approach since the mid 90's and I think it is the best way to go, by far, for a subset of children/teens who do not benefit from time out, rewards, response cost, over correction, star charts, etc. Check it out.
