Should Asperger' Syndrome be removed as a diagnosis?

Two interesting articles today …. In the NYTimes.com today there is a very interesting debate about whether Asperger’s Syndrome should be preserved as a distinct/unique diagnostic category rather than folded into a new super category of “autistic spectrum disorder.” The debate was initiated by Simon Baron-Cohen of Britain who has argued that Asperger’s Syndrome should be preserved. The other article was posted on Yahoo health group. This article cites a very interesting piece of research on the stress levels of mothers raising children/teens on the spectrum. The author of the study states that mothers who are challenged by an autistic child/teen have stress levels comparable to a combat soldier. I would love to hear your thoughts on the diagnostic debate as well as the stress level study!!
