Update on Abilify

The FDA has just approved the atypical anitpsychotic Abilify for the treatment of agression, self injury, and irritability in ASD children and teens (6 to 17 years old). Abilify was approved for the new use based on data from two 8 week studies comparing it to placebo. I have seen very good results with Abilify, especially in decreasing tantrums and explosive behavior -- always in conjunction with parent training and/or family therapy. For more information you should consult a child psychiatrist who specializes in the treatment children and tenns with ASD.
