What are we to do this summer?
Well, summer is fast approaching and this is the time of year that GroupWorks West is in the process of becoming vednored for camp -- Theater Arts and Film Making.
Sadly, there will be no funding available for camp from any regional center due to budget cuts. What will working parents do? Where will school aged children go when it is time for parents to leave for work? It would seem the powers that be that made this decision (Sacramento) did not have a back up plan for families. There simply isn't an alternative funding source -- with exception a few grants. The Achievable Foundation provided $1200.00 to one of our clients each of the past two years. So, if you are looking for funding, contact you regional center coordinator about this foundation.
GroupWorks West has decided to run our theater arts and film making camp one day per week -- eight Wednesdays (930 to 230) starting on 6/23/10 and ending on 8/11/10. We will offer a sliding scale to all and will offer partial and full scholarships. If we get enough campers, we may even offer an additional day (Friday 230 to 930). This summer will be our 10th camp!
Another possibility might be for families to create camp days -- one family could take 6 or 8 kids to the beach. The next day another family would chip in and go to a museum. This would be a camp co-op. it could work. It is something to consider, anyway.
If you hav any questions about our camp, there is a description on the web site. Or you can contact Chris Mulligan at 310/287-1640.
